"When I'm Wrong I Say I'm Wrong"
In the movie "Dirty Dancing" there's a great moment when Jerry Orbach,
"Baby's" (Jennifer Gray) father, apologizes to Patrick Swayze for falsely accusing him of impregnating an old girlfriend. Orbach says to Swayze:
"When I'm wrong I say I'm wrong." In an effort to emulate Orbach I say this to Tim Zagat: When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong. A Serious Eats reader who worked for Tim and Nina informed me that "while I can say many disparaging things about Zagat, but I'll tell you this: Tim takes those ratings as serious as a heart attack." There are indeed many things to take issue with regarding the Zagat ratings, but apparently my charge on Friday isn't one of them. I stand corrected.

it takes a BIG man to.... however, don't lose the faith. u may have been "somewhat" incorrect in this, but generally speaking u may have touched upon something that exists, buried way beneath the surface. the zagat's are a very aggressive couple, & there "MAY" be some truth to what u said, but too difficult to uncover, & quite frankly not worth pursuing.
on the other hand, it doesn't hurt to stir things up a little bit. this may be one of the few sites that does, without being "sat upon" ,such as the amateurish "egullet & chowhound". if one takes the time, & participates, & actually takes these sites recommendations; u will find 95-99% of the info is boorish, unsophisticated, & simply without merit - btw that goes for the "fatso" steven shaw, who really doesn't know his ass from 3rd base, but "thinks" he does. i should know, i wasted too much time finding out the above.
don't know if others have had similar experiences, but just as john marianni never met a restaurant (or very few) due to aggressively pursuing being "comped", that he disliked, i have found very few who REALLY know what they are talking about. that goes for wine comments, coffee comments, food comments, & my favorite - restaurant reviews.
btw, 1 sure way of pissing off both a restaurant owner & a moronic participant at egullet or chowhound, is to bring up the subject "we don't make any money on the food, that's why we have to make u bleed when it comes to our wine/liquor/beer prices"......... the responses easily alert one as to how much BS each has swallowed - somewhat similar to "WMD's" existing....
