Now This is My Idea of Fusion Food
Tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. there is going to be an Egg Rolls and Egg Creams Block Party on Eldridge Street between Canal and Division Streets.

The event, a celebration of the longstanding link between Chinese and Jewish cultures, will also feature Chinese opera, klezmer bands, mah-jong and lots of kosher egg rolls (no pork, I guess). So after you've stuffed your face with barbecue at the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, head down to Eldridge Street for an egg roll and egg cream chaser.

The eggrolls were filled with nothing but cabbage, and tasted about as Chinese as pierogi. Fun event, though.

That sounds about right. How were the egg creams?

I am sooo sorry I missed the opportunity for an egg cream. Yeah I can make 'em at home but it would have been fun to indulge publicly with other fanatics.

Ghastly. Warm, unmixed, and bearing no resemblance to those I had growing up in Brooklyn. I really am not comfortable being hypercritical about this (I mean, the eggroll and eggcream totalled a dollar), because the event itself was terrific, but if they're going to call it Egg Rolls and Egg Creams, they should rethink how they're preparing both.
