Mea Culpa on Ixta
Zarela Martinez left me a voicemail yesterday thanking me for calling her one of the seminal Mexican chefs in NY (Zarela is extremely polite and forthright. In fact, she is a force of nature.) But the main reason she called was to call me to task for writing that she used to own Ixta (a restaurant I had praised for its $10 lunches), and that she then sold it to her employees. She never owned Ixta, she said. She owned Danzon, which was in a different location in the same neighborhood, and therefore she never sold Ixta to her employees. So basically, I got the entire story wrong. My apologies to Zarela, whom you don't want to cross, and to the readers of Ed Levine Eats, whom I misinformed.
