A few more Upper West Side spots

An Ed Levine Eats reader sent me the following additions to my Upper West Side Essential Eating Guide (many thanks):

"Great burgers at All-State Cafe (72nd/west end) actually, the whole menu is surprisingly good." I think the burger's okay at the All-State, and I find the rest of the menu pretty lackluster.

"Sushi on nights that Jimmy (owner/chef) is working at Raku II (76th/col.) & Tenzan (74th col.)" I agree with him about Raku II. I love that place, though this past summer the air conditioning is almost non-existent.

"Hidden gem: the burger ordered "joanie's way" at Popover Cafe. (russian dressing/horseradish/white cheddar on the onion roll)." That sounds great, although I haven't been to the Popover in at least ten years.

"The best new addition to the neighborhood: T.J. O'Brien's pub on 82nd/columbus. replaced the way overrated kitchen82. now that I'm out of my twenties, this is the kind of bar the area desperately needed. guinness served properly on tap. very good fish & chips. solid burger. awesome staff. (and it's across the street from my apartment.)" Sounds very promising, indeed. Every neighborhood needs an Irish bar with good food, and they're pretty hard to find.

"The chocolate chip cookie at columbus bakery. although they have the meanest/worst staff in nyc."

I don't remember the chocolate chip cookies at the Columbus Bakery, but I've always loved the brown butter cakes there. I actually haven't found a definitively great chocolate chip cookie on the upper west side, though they're pretty damned good at Bouchon Bakery. Some people really like the chocolate chip cookies at Levain that weigh at least a quarter of a pound. They're okay, but they are heavy.

Of course, Jessica. My apologies. I should have done that in the first place.
